Potemani explores the theme of “Moana Urbanism” — a concept that explores the intersection of Pacific ancestral knowledge and contemporary urban life. The works speak to migration, memory, and cultural resilience. Potemani’s work is grounded in the everyday realities of Ōtara, offering a visual language that is both personal and political.
About the artist:
A'aifou Potemani is a visual artist of Samoan (Falease'ela, Lefaga) and Tongan (Tokomololo, Tongatapu) descent, born and raised in Ōtara, South Auckland. His practice spans screen printing, printmaking, and painting, and is deeply informed by his cultural heritage and the urban Pacific experience. Potemani recently exhibited in AUT’s Master of Visual Arts Graduating Exhibition II. His work reflects a strong technical foundation and a commitment to storytelling through layered, tactile processes.
