Viaduct Harbour is proud to partner with New Zealand sailors Peter Burling & Blair Tuke for their Tokyo 2020 Olympic campaign, alongside fellow sponsors Ecostore, SAP and Omega.

Making their way through a season of pre-Olympic qualifiers, Tuke & Burling head into the pinnacle Hyundai 2019 World Championships being hosted in Auckland on 3–8 December with Viaduct Harbour’s full support.

Winning every major regatta between the London and Rio Olympics — where the pair famously cleaned up by the largest margin of victory seen in more than 50 years — sets an unprecedented background, but the pair’s previous successes certainly do not mean that either of the sailors will be resting on their laurels.

Burling comments “There’s a lot of healthy talent coming through not only overseas, but here in New Zealand, which we’re happy to see. With fewer than 300 days to Tokyo, Tukey and I know we have to give it absolutely everything we’ve got if we want another chance at gold.”

As passionate sustainability advocates, the pair will be helping Viaduct Harbour share its initiatives for protecting the marina and environment. “The area has grown and developed into such a happening place. Pete and I are happy to see how conscious the Viaduct Harbour team are of protecting its water and environment. To see how much waste Viaduct Harbour’s Seabin is catching in the marina, for example, just shows how much needs to be done to protect our harbour,” says Blair.

“A home away from home” is how the double Olympic medalists have referred to the waterfront precinct for some time — as a teenager Tuke became very familiar with the area while spending time with his family aboard their boat. “I remember John White [Viaduct Harbour’s long-standing marina manager] back then, he was a bit of a legend to be honest” explains Tuke with fond memories.
